(KJV)
The kings of the earth lament the fall of the city - the end of the dialectic process in the church is not so much in view as the failure of a monumental global effort to construct the religions of the world into a synthetic whole that works harmoniously to some degree. Religions existing side by side is a political dream. Here at the judgement of the city, (in which it falls and is burnt up) it brings to a swift conclusion God's disdain for the contractual obligations of his "supposed" people with those who deny Him his due worship. The whole world is shown that religion in all its guises are under judgement for the fornication of those whom would eliminate God's people as a "peculiar and separate nation".
The "Death" as a plague numbers to 666. Also so does the "Hell" of the image system that follows after. The plague that is poured out into the cup of the woman are the missing twelve permutations (of the tenth part of the city that fell ) are a plague of the "second death" (properly "Hell" following after.) This justifies the verse that describes the false prophet as already in the lake of fire. Remember that the woman is the false prophet in view.
The "mourning" as a plague is equivalent to the loss of revenue to the merchants in the text. These are described as the merchants of the earth, (false religions) which supply materials for making idols and for clothing their modern day temples with "bling" as well as supplying every form of incense, with any animals for sacrifice.
Merchants are also properly identified as those that "buy and sell" doctrine in the religious systems of the world employing the dialectic process of the balances; now brought into one false prophet global system of corporations, linked together and from which the true elect of God have separated themselves. They mourn as no one remains buying their merchandise any more - being clearly shown as false teachers, with worthless idols that did not save their "city" despite all their pomp and pageantry. Commerce in the souls of men is also mentioned, but is properly rendered "slavery", or captivity in bondage. - A proper allegory of religious falsehood in such a system.
The merchants of these things that made the great sums of money stood afar off wailing - they are separate from those that buy and sell doctrine (as those are of the horsemen or "earth") and are instead properly likened to those corporations that are not religious but commercial, that employ the system of dialogue to consensus also. They see the judgement has started with the house of God, and it is such as to completely bankrupt the markets. The world is destroyed commercially from the destruction of the image - corporations will be in fear of the same (as her) torment.
Every shipmaster and sea merchant (those that buy and sell in the sea using the trumpet devices or methods) cry "what city is like unto this great city?" there is no alternative system of commerce on earth that fills the void of the religion of babylon, (including the peripheral commerce as before). Such pour dust on their heads, in knowledge that there is no longer "a living" to be made in the world for them - they can not and will not have a chance to survive in their commerce with the trumpet devices. They must repent or starve in the famine to come.
This description is quite wordy but powerfully describes the complete devastation to the commerce of the world in the wrath of God. All this occurs in just one hour of the text, and the verses above conclude with a call for the people and apostles of God to rejoice over her destruction (for God has avenged them on her). In rejoicing they are in the full knowledge that Christ is coming soon indeed.
The chapter concludes with the evidence of the aftermath - the plague of "famine".

Rev 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
Rev 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
Rev 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
Rev 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.
(KJV)
The mighty angel in view is elsewhere the angel that has a great chain to imprison the dragon satan in the bottomless pit. The millstone cast into the sea casts down the beast that arises from the bottomless pit, equating to this city the synthesis of Death and Hell both numbered 666. In effect the octal sea, which is to be completely destroyed as separated from the K4 ultrafilter in Christ is a prison for the scarlet beast and the city - it will be left behind as into record "as a past event" when the world passes away at the return of Christ. There will be no one left alive in the city to sing, make music or to fashion craft and make an "honest" living.
We remember that God is God of the living and we should let the dead bury their dead; all are alive to God in the resurrection, and these dead corporate bodies are to be done away with once and for all. No light of God (candle) will shine any more in this desolate city of the damned and dead - there will be no voice of wedded joy or alternatively any commerce of doctrine - for those that practiced commerce were deceived and spiritually dead. The only honest thing religioous commerce did was marry.
The cause of all the persecution of Gods people was to bring into effect this city of the dragon's creation. His jealousy was all to bring this forth, and it is to be cast down and forgotten as sunk into the sea and removed from existence forever. In the casting down and chaining of the serpent to the bottomless pit we see that satan is powerless to tempt the elect of God away from Christ; and they are foreknown by God on the basis that the dragon is removed from them - in like manner they equivalently are foreknown on the basis that they overcome the god of this world - and that they would exit this city knowing it is to be cast down desolate.
In doing so one overcomes the beast and his mark and avoids getting the number of his name. In reality it is true that those that are in Christ are the ones whom are not deceived - properly those whom are written in the book of life on the basis of the foreknowing as without satan present. Then those that are not written in the book of life are decieved also, even if they do not "get the mark". The God of heaven may have called them, but they are not chosen because they are gathered under the same beast in the wilderness. There is a 1-1 correspondence on the last day between those that are saved and those without the mark. The mark is more equivalenty said to be the reprobate mind of the "double minded" man or sinner. In that fashion they are actually 'antichrist' and are by interpretation numbered 666 instead of at the sabbath rest of unity.
The equivocation of the angels is made on the basis that chaining the dragon is such as to remove the devices from the foreknowledge of the believer and is the reason why predestination with the Holy Spirit is merited. Thus the believer would heed the Holy Spirit to exit the city if He were elect. Then, equivalently if the believer exits the city without being elect then he does so as antichrist. He will still practice the devil's devices because the devil is his spiritual father and the devil's works the man does. (This requires that he be in the multitudes under the beast (waters)). Only the truly regenerate man (a born again new creation) exits the city completely and is preserved in Christ.
Lastly then, the election of God (made certain in God's own knowledge) by the removal of the dragon as on the "last day" (as satan is cast into hell which is the bottomless pit, Hell=Abaddon), is to be saved or thrown where the beast and false prophet already are - the lake of fire. The filling in of the image system's cup to complete the group S4 is such as to complete the lake of fire (Hell) and separate all believers in Christ from the bottomless pit (algebraic closure) from which the elements of S4 are completed - satan chained in the pit is therefore to complete the judgement of the Church to be closed algebraically as 666 completed.
This is a very rich subject, but the casting down of the city is completed with the binding of the dragon in the pit so as to complete the city. God then makes it a thing of the past as the second death consumes all the reprobates, and the octal is destroyed and renewed sanctified and only the elect are preserved that have overcome the world of their day - today we face the beast and its mark - but Christ is coming soon!
