The Reed, Rod and Temple
Starting with the verses from revelation;
Rev 11:1 And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.
Rev 11:2 But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.
(KJV)
Firstly we should note that a "reed" is a writing instrument as well as a "stem", and a "rod" is also as a sceptre or staff. John was able at this point to measure the temple, altar and those within. (This is the multitude mentioned in Rev Ch:7 v9-v17) John is there to recalculate the symmetries of the octal and of a single C7 group for multiplication - not to count the 144 sealed rest states and the 24 elders, but to measure the structure of GF(8). Namely the elements and their subgroups as well as the frobenius automorphisms.
It then becomes clear of that which John meant when he wrote "a reed like unto a rod". He meant that he was given the understanding of how to write some form of mathematics that he could use to more familiarly remember the visions he was being given! From a world used to using Roman numerals, John could add and multiply etc easily enough, but irreducible polynomials and extensions by indeterminates are perhaps a little too advanced. We know at least he was certainly given some kind of primer - perhaps {[a,b,c],[a,d,e],[a,f,g],[b,e,g],[b,d,f],[c,d,g],[c,e,f]} and a few other hidden gems.
John, now familiar with the key to the text in this primer was told to exclude for now the other seven multiplicative groups as well as such items as wormwood and "the sea" as we now know it. We should acknowledge the octal in the passages to come in every "new" statement: for the "angel with the little book" whose are the two witnesses are concerned with testifying the victory of Christ with the least of his flock, testify to those gentiles whom trample the outer court for 42 months. (Yet, they witness of all 30 octals) giving a grand total of 1260 days to their ministry.
So other than the set {[a,b,c],[a,d,e],[a,f,g],[b,e,g],[b,d,f],[c,d,g],[c,e,f]}, what could John have been given? Perhaps an easy way of generating the seven cycles on the octal, as well as noting the static right hand left hand subgroups in each cycle. Perhaps a key as to hours, days, months and years in the field structure of the octal.
So if John were sitting algebra class in the spirit I am sure he would have said: but He was indeed given an instrument of writing to "help him" in his measurement: It can only be mathematics and the gift of algebra. As spiritual gifts go, it is a marvellous one.
I'm sorry Everiste! John got there some 1750 years before you!
