The Interpretation

The angel touches Daniel to strengthen him and interprets the vision for him.

Gabriel explains to Daniel that the vision is an example for the believers in these last days, an example to watch for - in fact we deduce it is a prefiguring of the "ten virgins, five wise, five foolish" in Jesus' parable. Gabriel shows to Daniel the result of the leavening of the people of Judah by the "little horn" that similarly in spirit, infects the churches in revelation.

Gabriel makes Daniel to know that in the last days of the kingdoms which stemmed from the empire of Alexander the great, a ruler will come from one of the lines of the four generals whom took over Alexander's kingdom and this king will be violent and obsessed with the dialectic which could be read as "the tricks played by (or to) the mind". We could liken this man to one like the false prophet whom "speaks as a dragon".

The king will be mighty, but will have inherited that might, (The empire is in decline in it's last days) The king will war successfully and grow stronger - taking the land of Judah, stopping the daily sacrifice and profaning the temple. By his ways he causes "craft" or "deception" to become expected of him, and with the heart of the image system will have success in both manipulating peaceful relations as well as conquering, destroying many - becoming puffed up to the point of making himself equal to God - in whom he will finally meet his match.

The individual is Antiochus IV, also nicknamed "Antiochus Epimanes" - the "madman" - and for good reason too.

As important as the history lesson is, it prefigures the captivity of believers in the Laodicean conglomerate of the five refining churches. There were five empires under which Israel had been captive, Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia and finally Greece. The "Little horn" that springs up could be considered the parallel to the synagogue of satan with his "host" - himself functioning in the deceptive spirit of the "false prophet".

We know that the city of Jerusalem is in bondage in the old testament (under the law) but under the new testament the "new Jerusalem" is free. The allegory of comparing the OT law system to Hagar and the new to Sarah, (whose child was of promise) is in view - for Jerusalem was cut off from God and sent into captivity because of their transgressions, and in the new Christian era the church is led out of captivity in the churches to freedom in their walk with Christ.

That the passage gives a mathematical calculation of the time" of the transgression's duration is startling:

Dan 8:13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?
Dan 8:14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed. (KJV)

We may liken the five OT empires through which Israel survived - in each accumulating both true doctrine and unnecessary traditions and dogma; to the five churches of revelation. The sixth element as to Antiochus' "host" that feeds in false practices. Lastly, we may liken the seventh element to the "prince of the host" (Christ) whose place is taken by Antiochus.

Considering that in the OT era the way to God was not opened, but only available through the sanctuary once a year, we must separate the reference or "sun octal" from all others, which we shall leave to be "transgressed upon" or trampled - so that evil may be brought to the full whilst keeping God "sanctified." before His people.

The sanctuary we may state is the "dwelling place" of God (the octal) dwelling underneath the seven cycle, with the holy of holies into which only once a year the priest may enter interceding for the people. God stands enthroned therein as identity of the additive group of GF(8) and as if using K4 subgroup addition. With the casting down of the sanctuary we may consider the additive group (and zero) of GF(8) to have vacated the temple.

Dan 8:10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. (KJV)

In casting down some of the host and stars to the ground and stamping on them we exclude them totally from the system, replacing one full element of the "host" with a replacement which we will call Anticochus' "host". We will exclude also the "stars in heaven" formed by the possible left hands and triples (stars) accompanying our reference octal, and fix the unity element without letting it float. By excluding some of the "stars" then we exclude all but one possible unity element, thereby reducing from the "sun octal's" four possible left hands to one octal under consideration only. (Thus fixing 0 and 1 only.) We then generalise so that the static bows will also be under our calculations - the system will trample on those "stars".

Dan 8:11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. (KJV)

Then, as the sanctuary is cast down we equate this to removing the underlying octal, leaving the field GF(7) (isomorphic to GF(8)*), and Antiochus reaching to the host we equate as "making himself one of the host" (as if one of the floating unities in the Sun octal) and by "magnifying himself to the prince of the host" we will move Antiochus into Jesus' place of primary unity (in one Spirit and Morphism of 24, now we have fixed 0 and 1) as over every isomorphic octal.

Antiochus then stands in the place of unity, We deduce sacrifice would be purposed to map non-unity elements in GF(8)* to unity, as if equivalent to the leaves of the tree of life in revelation, (for the healing of the nations). Sacrifice then is an analogy to grace (in the NT with righteousness credited with a down-payment in the gospel), here in the OT, sacrifice reinstated the repentant Israelite to blameless "election" (to be as one of His people.) which is now only found in Christ.

Is Antiochus given his position to prove him false and ineffective; under God: or are the people being tested under him?

Dan 8:12 And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. (KJV)

However, one "host" (element) of the seven cycle is given to Antiochus, as "against the daily sacrifice" - i.e. in the place of an inverse element of the whatever element (of the seven cycle of multiplication) is under consideration, (this host changes relative to the "daily" application of the generator of the group) in our now reduced system.

I.e. every element has an inverse: clearly the "daily sacrifice" would itself indicate a seven cycle. If x requires x6 to be mapped to unity, then x2 requires x5, it's inverse. Clearly repeated application of x is matched by repeating its inverse; That there is such a situation "by reason of transgression" upon inverses in the cycle is due to there being transgression to begin with: were a person not in their sins they would not require the daily sacrifice..

The "truth" we may equate to the healing of God over the sins of His people - by the law. As the law is cast down, so is the truth - and Antiochus replaced God's law with his own. (causing the truth of the underlying octal to be "thrown down" by interrupting the seven cycle. )

The host given against the daily sacrifice given to Antiochus we may say is a set of people that "just want to get along". This "inverse" is unity in GF(7)*, i.e. when reduced to six cycles, as if "raising to the power of one" in GF(8). This "rest" element represents those whom are "at ease" with the Grecian way of living - Since every element of C7 is order seven, the element of the "host given Antiochus" may be rephrased as xn = y and then we have the same system of the host opposing the sacrifice in terms of y rather than x for any element we desire. It "practiced and prospered", it began to be the "norm" and was "resilient".

We must then avoid mapping to unity or one element of six (the host of transgressors, as working in the "leaven").

We therefore only need to consider the five remaining "hosts" or elements of "accumulated doctrine" present in Israel. (If Israel resists the leavening of the sixth element.) We then allow all but one "reference" field to be trampled underfoot - leaving one remaining in which Israel is free to be obedient - as in a scene in heaven say..

What we need, is to properly commensurate the number of seven cycles to the reference octal. Usually we would consider a set of plausible C7 groups such as {a,b,D,C,F,G,E} where only arrangements of {D,C,F,G,E} differ between groups. However we will alter the selection to every possible six cycle group since we will fix Antiochus as unity in GF(8)*. So we have one pair of arbitrary starting elements and 4! = 4*3*2*1 choices to define all our generators of groups. Then we have 24 possible six cycle groups in six symbols as if they were a multiplicative group for GF(7).

Now in analogy we have the circuit of the angel of the church in revelation walking through the seven candlesticks with Christ: the number of combinations of groups in rows transforming upon columns is therefore (4!)2

We must subtract one combination from this total, to preserve one group upon itself as in both rows and columns, generating merely its own elements, as the correct group in GF(7) that is part of the reference octal: as the elements of GF(7) over GF(8), which is preserved as it were, in "heaven" and is still sanctified. I.e. without the "host" given to Antiochus against the daily sacrifice, as if Jesus were simply absent from the system. Or either God does not make a "full end" of His people, but keeps free and obedient a six cycle in at least one certain circuit of a blameless remnant. (Of Israelites without transgression, as if they are a floating unity yet not appearing so before Antiochus.)

Such a remnant does not require sacrifice if they are blameless and are no doubt not to be included. (They are as a floating unity under grace) In essence, they are the six non-zero elements remaining in the same single preserved octal of "heaven" as without Christ present - not requiring sacrifice but in good standing before God.

So therefore we have thus far at most ((4!)2 - 1) possible sets of "walks" through our six cycles for Israelites under transgression.

Now, we must exclude products in GF(8)* resulting in the unity element - (Antiochus) also avoid mapping into the "host" of Antiochus. So, for each element there are 4 remaining elements left available, (not permitting unity for one to "hold fast", as dead in their sins.)

Then we may map amongst the elements of the seven cycle of GF(8)* in 4 ways per element.

4*((4!)2 - 1) = 2300 days, as desired from the text..

We have the result in "days" since we have fixed zero and unity and only calculated the table of rows and columns to the groups involved, ignoring the order of the groups or elements generated within the table, (but not ignoring the products for the factor o four, as we can rephrase from xn to y for the "host" given Antiochus.) Thus "days" is representative of the field and we are counting "sets of 24 elders" (hours) as we had in revelation.

(KJV)

By "unity" we must associate a row of our table to Antiochus, but in GF(8)* we have the result that the first and second rows are "Ichabod"

1 A C D E B F== Antiochus
A B D E F C 1== "host given Antiochus"
B C E F 1 D A == maps starting element to "host given Antiochus"
C D F 1 A E B
D E 1 A B F C
E F A B C 1 D
F 1 B C D A E == starting element, inverse maps to Antiochus, this inverse is his "host"

Thus as the daily sacrifice is taken away, we can not map to the unity element (antiochus) or into the host given to him. Likewise, there is no "rest" while the situation continues,.. holding fast without the daily sacrifice is not possible under Antiochus, (c.f. the 144 rest states in revelation.) The last row can only be multiplied by only four rows but not sent to itself by the top row (unity) as if they were "holding fast" in transgression, as if content without sacrifice.

And we may map our starting element (bottom row) by the rows amongst only four of the rows, but not by elements mapping to the top row (Antiochus), or into the host given him. Therefore leaving four elements and excluding the identity completely. So we have a factor of four, and still five elements to consider - but as we are working in groups (not elements) both in rows and columns, and order by generator is arbitrary (producing elements from the same sets of groups) we only need the factor of four.

Therefore we have reduced to the "doctrinal elements" analogous to the five refining churches (Ephesus to Sardis) to calculate our result whilst avoiding mapping to the sixth element i.e. the "host" Israel must not enter to remain obedient; We also removed the same element of the host "against the daily sacrifice" as mapping to the seventh element - unity in GF(8) (Antiochus). We calculated the number of possible "paths" (maps) within the five states over every octal except one (heavenly, as without transgression).

All the while God has withdrawn himself a little. (There is one arrangement God will not let be trampled - the elements that may be obediently mapped to the unity by the host in heaven: which is holy and free of Antiochus' transgressing "host". The remaining right hand of this one automorphism is "untainted" and remains holy.) It seems then justly, that heaven can wait.

So, there seems to be some semblance of commonality between the revelation text and the account above in the calculation of the numbering, What do we mean by trampling the sanctuary underfoot? We have the exact OT parallel (discounting the sabbath rest in Christ) to overcoming as both Laodicea and Philadelphia - that of the outer court of the temple (which John did not measure) trampled underfoot by the gentiles for 42 months. (a six element encroachment upon seven seven cycles spanned by another seven cycle). The difference is that Jerusalem is captive under Antiochus and also their transgression; whereas new Jerusalem in Christ (philadelphia) is free.

We now see the star fallen with the key to the bottomless pit acts so as to prevent Sardis moving into Philadelphia as the element mapping as it were into the host of Antiochus, yet in reality into freedom in Christ:

The result is that for the transgressions of His people God may remove Himself but not always completely - He always preserves a remnant outside of the results of "leavening" that we see within this passage and in the letters to the churches. The reference octal is not included in the calculation (except in the removal of the one group from the (4!)2 corresponding to it), leaving every element of GF(7) - we simply removed the element "zero" in GF(8). We "punctured or pierced" GF(8) and removed unity (Christ) and replaced it with a liar (Antiochus). One could ask, if Jesus is not in heaven, "Where is He?" Then, the sanctuary shall be cleansed.

In this analogy God had permitted His sovereignty to be tested to the uttermost of His patience before sending His Son Jesus - once the determined period in "heaven-time" had the earthly chronological time catch up to it.

In the next chapter Daniel prays for the transgressions of his people to receive God's mercy - a clear indicator that from this vision, not only is Israel to return "to the pleasant land" from captivity - but that in this vision they will be tested on their doctrine they have accumulated thus far - to see if they will hold to remaining God's people or to be leavened and cut themselves off to be Greeks. Daniel, knowing that his people are in captivity for their sins and that now they will be tested on what they have been given to stand upright upon, (good from God and bad from elsewhere) prays for his people in the chapter to follow, and rightly so.
